Part of the global initiative started in London - Open House Roma has become a tradition in Italy - one weekend per week (in May, check program www.openhouseroma.org) more than 170 private palaces, mansions, homes, libraries and other buildings open their doors to public. This is a rare opportunity to see places otherwise closed for public admission, especially for art and architecture lovers. All buildings offer free admission, although some of them request prior registration.
On DomenicAspasso Sundays tens of thousands of people attend special events and visit various cultural sites that are open especially for this occasion. This is a unique opportunity to see interesting places and sites and with free admission. Modern Art Gallery (www.gam-milano.com) in Milan displays works of 18th and 19th century artists. The gallery is housed in a beautiful villa on Via Palestro with romantic English garden beside it. Free entrance.
The Rose Garden in Florence located below Piazzale Michelangelo is a place of magical beauty: about 400 varieties of roses for a total of more than 1200 plants are displayed here. Open daily from 8:00-20:00, with free entrance, suggested visit in May. Recently it was extended with a Japanese garden.
Every second Thursday of a month Pallazo Strozzi hosts Thursday Squared - a creative evening to reveal yourself. From 19.00 on, release creativitiy in yourself in the courtyard of Palazzo. You can make an object from original materials and take it home as a keepsake or gift. The programme changes every month and you can check it here. All activities in the Courtyard are free.
Every Thursday from 18:00-22:00 Palazzo Strozzi (www.strozzina.org) offers free admission to its exhibitions. Besides that from time to time you can meet here local art students who act as exhibition guides, check on the site.
