Located in the heart of Barcelona: on La Rambla 16 - Portaferrissa fountain dates from 1680, builder unknown; the tiles you see today date from 1959 created by ceramicist Joan Baptista Guivernau.

The fountain was named after one of the gates of the second city wall of Barcelona, the ‘porta Ferriça’, at the bottom of which a fountain was built to supply homes with drinking water.

The tiled panel depicts people of the city at the bottom of the city walls and a clear portrayal of the protective figure of Saint Josep Oriol flying over the city’s entrance gate.
